Rituals of Resistance

I have found that the more joy I share with the world, the more joy comes back to me. Over the past six weeks, I have had the pleasure of connecting with MLUC members and friends during our Weekly Wellness sessions focused on Resilience and Resistance through Poetry & Music.

I started the Weekly Wellness space as a way to provide people with an outlet, reminding us that the only way to effectively counter the oppressive Trump regime is to place love at the center and to care for ourselves. This self-care serves as an act of resistance that builds resilience. What I initially created for others has turned into a gift for myself. Each week, I have the honor of connecting deeply with others. Not only do I hold space for them, but they also hold space for me. I have received words of love through poetry, stories, and even a cactus plant.

Our Unitarian Universalist values center on love, and I have the privilege of embodying that love for both others and myself. Right now, centering love means prioritizing my own well-being so that I can better serve others.

This week’s Weekly Wellness offering is not a poem but an invitation to embrace creativity. Engaging in creative activities not only sparks joy but also ignites your nervous system, releasing dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins, all of which help reduce stress.

I invite you to take a moment out of your day to prioritize your own wellness and build resilience. This act of self-care serves as a powerful form of resistance, especially when we come together as a community. Let’s take a moment to breathe, rest, and nurture our hearts with hope through poetry and music.
